Holiday Bible Club

The Holiday Bible Clubs have been held on six Saturday afternoons each July and August. Each year a core of Sunday School children plus many new ones are attracted. The Club also gives opportunity for committed young people who have come through Sunday School to begin taking leadership in one form or another. Some of these young people who have now gone away to university have taken the initiative to run similar Holiday Bible Clubs in their university town.

Do not despise the day of small things

We started small and in much weakness, yet having a vision and relying on the Lord. We continue that way, humbled and amazed at all the Lord is doing. Truly He is able to bring glory to Himself even out of our weakness.

How does a Holiday Bible Club run?

Due to work or study commitments most of the teachers are not available during week days and so we find it best to run a typical "Five-Day Club" on a five- week basis held on consecutive Saturdays during the long holiday. The sixth week is devoted to revision in quiz-form, giving of prizes as appropriate and encouragement to go on learning more of the Lord by coming to Sunday School, church, etc.

A typical Club programme would be:

  1. Teachers meet beforehand to pray.

  2. Welcome and explanation (especially on first Saturday) of how the Club will run.

  3. Opening Prayer.

  4. Songs which will impart simple Bible truths and set a joyful tone to opening of Club.

  5. Children divide into age groups for open-air games, then remain in their group for session which will follow and be appropriate for their age.

  6. Song.

  7. Memory Verse.

  8. Competitive Quiz with aim of revising previous week's Bible teaching. (Children divided into teams for this. Prizes will be given on last Saturday.)

  9. Visualized Bible Lesson.

  10. Song.

  11. Visualized Missionary Story with which the children can easily identify and which helps to illustrate the way of salvation. This is serialized over the five weeks.

  12. Closing and encouragement to return the following week and bring a friend.
