Prayer News 15 August 2003

Hospital

  • - Three of the doctors are on leave during August - please pray for those carrying the burden of the work in their absence: Dr Adrien (surgeon), Dr Jeannine (anaesthetist), Dr Rabe (medical), Dr Paul Steinkuller (eye surgeon).
  • - There have been increased patient numbers for the past 3 months putting extra strain on the nursing, medical and laboratory staff. More long-term workers are needed (see "Personnel Needs" page).
  • - The hospital manned a stall at the Mandritsara fair at the end of July. Many people from the district, as well as the Deputy Prime Minister, visited the stall and heard not only what HVM is doing, but also a presentation of the gospel.

    Church

  • - Pastor Julien is doing a training attachment with an experienced pastor in Moramanga, east of Antananarivo, for 2 months
  • - The Children's Holiday Bible Club continues each Saturday until 30 August. It is being held in a Primary School on the outskirts of Mandritsara. 80 - 100 children have been attending and most of them are completely new contacts.
  • - An order has been placed for the roof of the new church building. It needs to arrive in Mandritsara before the end of the dry season.
  • - The 70th anniversary of the Association of Bible Baptist Churches of Madagascar will be held in Antananarivo from 20-24 August. This is both an occasion to give praise to God for all He has done, and also an opportunity to witness to many local and national government officials who will be invited to the proceedings.

    New Missionary Personnel

  • - Esther Kaempf, a Swiss secretary, currently working with Helimission in Antananarivo, has been accepted to become our mission administrator at Mandritsara. She plans to spend January to March 2004 in Antsirabe doing language study, and come to Mandritsara in April 2004.
  • - Mat and Katy Linley, from Sutton Bonington Baptist Church in England, have been accepted to work at Mandritsara from September 2003 for just under a year. Katy is a doctor and will work in the hospital. Mat works for the Environment Agency in water pollution and waste management. He will work with the Community Health team studying existing water sources in 6 villages with a view to the provision of safe water supplies.
  • - Nurses Hilde Vlaminckx (Belgium) and Dorith Liniger (Switzerland) are hoping to start midwifery training at Mseleni Hospital in Kwa Zulu (South Africa) in October in preparation for future service in Mandritsara. Please pray that all the paperwork and visas will be completed in time.
  • - John and Mair Pugh, nurse trainer from England, are in France improving their French. Please pray that the Lord may touch the hearts of folk to support them in prayer and financially so that they can come to Mandritsara to open the nursing training school.
  • - Debbie Simpson, laboratory technician from Northern Ireland, is preparing to go to Albertville in France at the end of the year to improve her French before coming to Madagascar in mid 2004.

    Short termers

  • - A building team of 7 from Christchurch, New Zealand, led by Dave Burrows, are due to arrive in Madagascar later this month, and will be there until early October. Their main task will be to build the extension to the maintenance building, as well as to train our new Malagasy carpenter, David.
  • - A group of 5 from Ypres, Belgium are due to arrive mid September for a few weeks. Three are nurses. The others are Robert and Christine Blondeel. Robert will be doing electrical work. Robert and Christine are looking at the possibility of returning long term to run the guesthouse.
  • - Two nurses from Switzerland, Susanne Schranz and Rebekka Zurbrugg, are hoping to come for 5 months from November.
  • - Jonas Beutler, a medical student from Bern in Switzerland is currently in Mandritsara. Alex Walter, a medical student from Manchester, England, is due to spend his elective with us from August 25 for 6 weeks.

    MAF

We are normally very dependent on the services of Mission Aviation Fellowship for transport between Mandritsara and Antananarivo. At present however one of their planes is being sold, and the other has recurrent engine problems, necessitating shipping the engine back to England. This leaves them without a functioning plane. They are hoping to borrow a plane from South Africa in September. Please pray for them. Jakob Adolf (Germany) and Fredrik Wagbrant (Sweden) are the pilots and Paul Duddridge (England) is the engineer.

Ecole Bonne Nouvelle (Good News School)

Three new teachers are needed for the start of the school year in September. We are grateful to God for leading us to 3 Malagasy Christian ladies who may be able to take up these posts. Please pray that both they and we will be sure that this is right, and pray for their move to Mandritsara and settling in.

    Containers

Two shipping containers left Felixstowe on 11 August destined for Mahajanga. They contain a tractor, sinks for the surgical block, an operating table, operating light, trolleys, car parts, maintenance equipment, portable generator, anaesthetic ventilator, computers, furniture, bicycles and much more. Please pray for their safe arrival, and for the administrative staff as they work on the customs procedure, and then for the transport of the items from the port to Mandritsara.
